The story is about three brothers: Alfred (Aidan Quinn), the oldest, who is also the most sensible and....boring;
Christian (Brad Pitt), who is the adventurous one: and their youngest brother (Henry Thomas) who is looked after them both.
The boys live happily with their father (Anthony Hopkins) on a ranch when the youngest brother brings home his fiancee (Julia Ormand).
When the First World War came the brothers went off to war but the youngest brother is killed. The two brothers return without their youngest
brother. Eventually Christian supposedly falls in love with his young brother's ex-fiancee but when he decides that he wants to leave to travel
for a while she marries his brother Alfred. When he returns he finds her married and his dad is ill but he falls in love with a half indian girl who he knew years before
and they marry. He starts a small business but he gets into trouble with other businessmen and they kill his wife.
A beautiful story of family love and the effect of bereavement. I think Brad Pitt does a great job at playing the corrupt yet gorgeous boy and
Aidan Quinn is a fantastic contrast as the sensible Alfred.
